Department of Zoology & Fishery Science

Zoology Dept. is in existence right from the inception of the college. It has been headed by a reputed teachers who initiated research activity from the very beginning. It was known to be a research center next to the then Marathwada University Aurangabad. Now Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad.
Along with Zoology, fishery science was introduced as restructured course in 1982. This was done according to the policy of UGC, with a view to provide employment opportunities to graduates later on fresh water fish culture was started at +2 stage in order to provide employment to the students from economically weaker sections of the society.  With a view to satisfy the quest of students for higher education, post graduation was introduced in the department from June 1997. The department has an intake capacity to 30 students at P.G. level on non-grant basis. The department is well equipped with essential research facilities also. It is a recognized research center and all the staff members of senior wing are recognized research guides.

Faculty :

The research guides and their students have a credit of research publication in reputed journals. Similarly the department is able to obtained research grants from different financial agencies. The research work is mainly focus on the issues related to local areas & stress is given on providing benefit to a common man.

Analysis of Rain water Harvested bore well; Simple bore well and Municipal Water (Tap Water) from Nanded City.

Summary and conclusion
The present probe discusses the comparative water analysis of simple bore well, Rain water harvested bore well and the tap water from Nanded city.

During present the physico-chemical parameters of simple bore well water, Rain water harvested bore well water and tap water from south and north Nanded city were analyzed. The analysis physico chemical parameters like, water temp. Electrical conductivity, TDS, DO, CO2, Total alkalinity, Total hardness, Chlorinity, Salinity Calcium, Magnesium and fluorides was made by following standard procedures described by ADHA (1992), Saharan et. al., (2002), Trivedi and Goel  (1984).

The water temp during present study ranged from 24.5 to 30.0ºC in simple bore well water and 23.5 to 38.4ºc in Rain water harvested bore well water.
The electrical conductivity ranged from 198 to 408µohms/ cm in tap water, 650 to 1150 µohms/ cm in Simple bore well water and from 450 to 950 µohms/ cm in Rain water harvested bore well water.
The pH fluctuated from 7.15 to 7.62 in Tap water, 7.23 to 7.98 in Simple bore well water and 7.13 to 7.78 in Rain water harvested bore well water.
The TDS ranged from 129 to 223 ppm in Tap water, 762 to 1150 ppm in Simple bore well water and 132 to 289 ppm in Rain water harvested bore well water.
The dissolved oxygen was ranged from 3.0 to 10.3 mg/ lit in Tap water, 4.8 to 11.0 mg/ lit in Simple bore well water and 4.2 to 10.3 mg/ lit in Rain water harvested bore well water.
Free carbon dioxide fluctuated from 0.7 to 12.0 mg/ lit in Tap water, 0.4 to 11.0 mg/ lit in Simple bore well water, while from 0.5 to 11.05 mg/ lit in Rain water harvested bore well water.
Total alkalinity fluctuated from 96 to 174 mg/ lit in Tap water, 196 to 270 mg/ lit in Simple bore well water and from 146 to 226 mg/ lit in Rain water harvested bore well water.
Total Hardness fluctuated from 94 to 142 mg/ lit in Tap water, 95 to 151 mg/ lit in Simple bore well water and 84 to 132 mg/ lit in Rain water harvested bore well water.
The Chlorinity ranged from 246 to 468 mg/ lit in Tap water, 293 to 412 mg/ lit in Simple bore well water and 250 to 278 mg/ lit in Rain water harvested bore well water.
The Salinity ranged from 0.31 to 0.91 mg/ lit in Tap water, 11.95 to 30.60 mg/ lit in Simple bore water and 7.00 to 26.6 mg/ lit in Rain water harvested bore well water.
The values of Calcium in present study fluctuated from 51.00 to 89.00 mg/ lit in Tap water, 75.00 to 111.00 mg/ lit in Simple bore well water and from 50.00 to 90.00 mg/ lit in Rain water harvested bore well water.
The values of Magnesium in present study fluctuated from 6.56 to 17.49 mg/ lit in Tap water, 33.0 to 34.9 mg/ lit in Simple bore well water and 23.0 to 24.7 mg/ lit in Rain water harvested bore well water.
The values of Fluoride in present study fluctuated from 0.11 to 0.40 mg/ lit in Tap water, 0.34 to 6.83 mg/ lit in Simple bore well water and 0.25 to 3.48mg/ lit in Rain water harvested bore well water from South and North Nanded city.
It is evident from present study that, the bore well water in Nanded city is not potable. The Fluoride content of bore well water may cause harm to the citizens living in Nanded (North) and fully dependent on bore well water for drinking purpose.
The TDS, Total alkalinity and Fluoride content of bore well water can be lowered down by Rain Water Harvesting System, so that the quality of water can be improved.
